Writing on the wall

Why do we run away from our words when it gets hard? And if writing is something we love so much, why do we actively seek something else to do, anything?

We feel guilty when we're not writing. Like washing the dishes, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom and ironing (because avoiding means doing all the stuff we wouldn't normally do), yet when we're so invested in the process and making great strides we feel guilty for not doing the other things. Where's the balance? Is there a balance?
This is my morning so far...
Take the kid to school.
Send a couple emails for work.
Open novel document. Stare into space.
Get coffee.
Stare into space while drinking coffee.
Look at novel. Write a couple words. Delete those words. Write a few more.
Go on Facebook.
Make breakfast.
Stare into space.
Open book I just bought. Read a few lines. Feel like I am a terrible writer because I will never write like that.
Put book down.
Write a few words. A page, maybe.
Go on Facebook.
Look at novel.
Get excited when I receive a text message.
Send another text, but not to the person who texted me.
Go on Facebook.
Feel guilty about not writing.
Get more coffee.
Write this blog post.
And justify to myself that I am at least writing something.
